PROFILE

The department was established in 1996. It offers a 4 –year B.Tech. (Textile Technology) programme, which is accredited by NBA, AICTE, New Delhi. It is starting a 2 – year M.Tech. (Textile Technology) programme from the academic year 2003-2004. It has distinguished faculty consisting of 5 Doctorates and 3 Postgraduates (2Postgraduates about to get PG degree) specialized in different areas of Textile Technology with rich industrial / research / teaching experience. The library has more that 600 relevant titles and subscribes to 10 Indian 20 foreign journals and magazines. The B.Tech. (Textile Technology) programme is accredited by NBA, AICTE, New Delhi.

  • Dr.M.Sivakumar has presented a paper on "Diversified Utility of Indian Non-mulberry Silk for the Production of Knitted Fabrics for Apparel and Non-apparel Purposes" at the International Sericulture Congress held at Bangkok, Thailand from21-25 September 2002.

  • Dr.R.V.M. Gowda has co-authored a Monograph on "Friction Spinning", Vol.33, No.2, published by the Textile Institute International, Manchester, U.K., 1993. Dr.R.V.M. Gowda has also authored a book on "New Spinning Systems", published by the NCUTE, IIT Delhi.

  • Miss Mangaiyarkkarasi has won the Bronze medal in Textile Engineering discipline for the Design and Development of Silk Knitted Children’s Wear from Indian Tasar Silk, at the 34th All India Students Design competition, 2003, organized by National Design and Research Forum, Insitution of Engineers (India), Bangalore.

  • The department has also conducted a 3-day orientation programme for textile engineers from M/s Lucky Spinning Company, Bangkok, Thailand, which is a 42000 Spindles and 1500 Rotor Spinning Mill, in May 2003.

    TESTING AND CONSULTANCY ACTIVITIES

    The department has been offering fibre, yarn, and fabric testing services to the nearby Textile Mills.

  •  Dr.M.Sivakumar is a member of Syllabus Sub Committee under the Chairmanship of Faculty of Technology, Anna University for B.Tech. (Textile Technology) programme.


  •  Dr.M.Sivakumar is a member of Board of Studies of Bangalore University for the PG programme in the discipline of Apparel Production and Management.


  •  Dr.N.P.Wagle and Dr.R.V.M.Gowda are the members of Special Committee for Curriculum design for PG Diploma in Textile Management, PG Diploma in Textile Marketing and merchandising programmes to be run by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textile Management – An autonomus institute under the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.
