| The
Department of Civil Engineering is functioning
from 2001 fulfilling its vision of imparting
high quality education. The department offers
a full time B.E. degree course in Civil
Engineering. Students are givn thorough
training in surveying, planning, analysis,
design and cost estimation of Civl Engineering
Structures including Industrial Structures
through intensive practical classes, mini
projects, major projects, survey camps and
field visits. Besides academic programmes,
additional computer courses, seminars and
workshops are conducted for the students
as well as for the faculty. The department
is capable of undertaking consultancy works
related to topographic surveying, contouring,
design of mutistoreyed structures, shell
and folded plate structures, industrial
structures and prestrssed concrete structures. |

Equipments |
| |
| All
the laboratories of the department are well
furnished with the latest electronically
controlled instruments. Triaxial compression
testing machine in the Soil Mechanics Laboratory
and Total Station in the Survey Laboratory
are some of the sophisticated instruments
available in the department. |

- Application of artificial neural networks
for trusses
- Strengthening of R.C.C. and S.F.R.C
slabs having a central hole
- Findings on the properties of Confined
Concrete based on an Experimental Investigation.

Placement
and Training
|
| |
| The
placement and training cell of the college
identifies the locations for field training
of students, coordinates the training process
and arranges campus interviews for reputed
firms for the placement of students. |

Unique
Facilities |
| |
| A
separate computer lab with 35 Pentium-4
systems are available for the exclusive
use of Civil Engineering Students. Analysis
packages such as Ansys and design softwares
such as STAAD Pro are available for the
free use of students. |

Prof.R.Narayanaswamy from June 2001 to
April 2003.
- Dr.N.Arunachalam from May, 2003 onwards.
The present Head of the Department, Dr.N.Arunachalam
has 38 years of teaching B.E. and M.E.
(Stru. Engg.) classes. He has authored
two books, has guided sixty-five M.E.
projects and has published more than 35
papers in National and International Conferences
and referred journals. He has functioned
as an Examiner for eight Universities
related to B.E., M.E. and Ph.D programmes
besides working as a member of the board
of studies in two Universities.
All other members of the Faculty of Civil Engineering are either doctorates or postgraduates with experience in various disciplines pertaining to Civil Engineering.
